The DAFT Visa
The Dutch-American Friendship Treaty (DAFT) is an agreement between the United States and the Netherlands that allows Americans to move to the Netherlands and receive a residence permit easily and quickly.

The requirements for the DAFT visa are very simple: become self-employed and keep €4500 in a European business bank account at all times. That’s basically it!

The DAFT visa must be renewed after 2 years. After 5 years of continuously living in the Netherlands, you can become a permanent resident.

Do i NEED AN aTTORNEY TO APPLY FOR daft?
Many individuals successfully apply and receive a DAFT visa without hiring an attorney. I completed the process without any legal assistance.
CAN i BRING MY SPOUSE AND children on THE DAFT VISA?
Yes, you can sponsor your spouse and children on your DAFT visa. Through your DAFT visa, your spouse will also be authorized to work in the Netherlands without needing employer sponsorship.
Do I need to HIRE a service like yours to successfully apply for DAFT?
Honestly, no, you do not need to hire any type of service to complete the DAFT application. I did it on my own, without the assistance of any professional services. However, it was a full time job researching, continuously contacting Dutch immigration offices, and relying on the goodwill of strangers who have gone through the process to answer my many questions. I searched for a service like this to guide me through the process, and even cold messaged some individuals asking if I could pay them to help me. This is why I am offering my services!
how long does the process take?
After Dutch Immigration (IND) receives and processes your initial application you have three months before they provide a decision about your visa. If you are able to gather and submit all of the required elements of the application sooner, then the process can be shorter. On average, it takes about two months from your initial application to when the IND makes their decision.
DO i NEED AN ESTABLISHED BUSINESS BEFORE i APPLY FOR daft?
You do not need to already have a business or a client history to apply for this visa. You can start your business or freelance career completely from scratch during the application process.
Why should i move to the NETHERLANDS?
The Netherlands is a wonderful place for American expats to live. Most of the Dutch speak English, it is easy to access most of Europe by bus or train, it is generally a very safe place, the people are friendly, they have great education and childcare systems, and there is plenty of great cheese, bread, and tulips.
What is the difference between the ZZP and BV DAFT OPTIONS?
ZZP stands for zelfstandige zonder personeel, or self-employed person. This is the path most DAFTers take, as it is the simplest. It is the best option if you are a freelancer.
A besloten vennootschap (BV) is a private company. If you pursue the BV route, you will be starting your own corporation and hiring yourself as an employee. This requires more administrative work and cash upfront. If you are planning on pursuing the BV route, I will not be able to advise you on the DAFT process.
